Professional Bio

Galia Ramírez-Toloza is a DVM and PhD from the Veterinary School at Universidad de Chile. Since his undergraduate thesis, Dr. Ramírez worked in host-parasite interaction, emphasizing the innate immune response against protozoan parasites such as Trypanosoma cruzi, Toxoplasma gondii, and Giardia duodenalis in different animal species. After finishing his Ph.D., Dr. Ramírez has a postdoctoral position in the Department of Immunology and Microbiology at the University of Toledo, Ohio, USA, where she worked deciphering the role of the complement system's alternative pathway to control bacteria. Dr. Ramírez is an Associate Professor in the Department of Animal Preventive Medicine at the Universidad de Chile. She teaches and conducts research in parasitology, immunology, and host-parasite interaction.
