Thomas Dumond

Phd Candidate - The University of Adelaide

Professional Bio

Thomas Dumond is a French veterinarian (DVM) and PhD candidate at the University of Adelaide in South Australia. Thomas graduated from the French veterinary school of Toulouse after supporting his thesis based on an epidemiologic investigation of corneal lesions outbreaks in tuna farms from the Australian Southern Bluefin Tuna Industry Association. He pursued his post-graduate studies at the University of Stirling (MSc Aquatic Veterinary Studies) where he focused on environmental enrichment and animal welfare in intensive farming, comparing advances in terrestrial animals and fish. After 2.5 years working as a field veterinarian in the French aquaculture industry, he decided to join Associate Professor Charles Caraguel to pursue his PhD in epidemiology, focusing on White Spot Disease outbreaks in Australia. His field experience as a private veterinarian gives him a realistic understanding of how farms are managed, which is of value in epidemiological studies.
