Professional Bio

Andrew leads the epidemiology team at the of the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry in Canberra. He is an honorary associate professor at the University of Queensland’s School of Veterinary Science. His research interests include wildlife disease epidemiology, viral zoonoses, animal health surveillance and phylogenetics. He has experience working on avian influenza and other viral diseases in Australia, Europe, Asia and Africa. He previously worked in the epidemiology team at the Animal and Plant Health Agency in the UK following completing a PhD with the Australian Biosecurity Cooperative Research Centre. He is a diplomate of the European College of Zoological Medicine with specialism in Wildlife Population Health, a member of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists epidemiology chapter, and editor for the journals EcoHealth and Epidemiology & Infection.
