Professional Bio

Dr. David R. Smith is professor and associate dean for research and graduate studies at the Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Smith is a board-certified veterinary epidemiologist with research and outreach activities in antimicrobial stewardship and methods to manage cattle populations to control the transmission of pathogens important to cattle or human health, including enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli, Salmonella, Johne’s disease, BVDV, respiratory disease, and neonatal calf diarrhea. Smith leads a team of epidemiologists at the Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine who work collaboratively with other researchers to solve population-based problems in animal or human health.
