Professional Bio
Helena Ferreira obtained her DVM in 2008 at the Faculty of Veterinary medicine of the Technical University of Lisbon (Portugal). At Utrecht University (The Netherlands) she studied epidemiology of African Swine Fever virus (ASFV), obtaining an MSc in Epidemiology in 2012 and a PhD in 2013. Afterwards, Helena did a postdoc at Plum Island Animal Disease Center (USA), on Foot and Mouth Disease and ASF epidemiology. Subsequently, she worked at GD Animal Health (The Netherlands), on swine immunology, followed by a position as technical manager at IDT (Germany) for Swine Influenza vaccines . Between 2019 and 2021, Helena worked at Ghent University (Belgium) focusing on infectious diseases of production animals. Since 2021, Helena has been working at ILVO (Belgium) as senior researcher in biosecurity, antimicrobial use & resistance in livestock, One health and socioeconomic aspects of veterinary epidemiology. Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Public Health (ECVPH) since 2023.
