Kgaogelo Mogano
Student - University of Pretoria / Agricultural Research Council
Professional Bio
Ms Kgaogelo Mogano completed a BSc (Hons) in Geography at the University of Limpopo and an MSc in Environmental Sciences with a speciality in Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing from the University Kwa-Zulu Natal (first class). Ms Mogano is currently a Student Researcher at the Agricultural Research Council (ARC) – Institute for Natural Resource and Engineering, as well as a registered PhD candidate in the Department of Geography, Geoinformatics and Meteorology at the University of Pretoria. Her doctoral degree is “Spatio-temporal analysis of animal and human rabies in northern South Africa between 1998 and 2022. Her study is focuses on incorporating geospatial technologies and molecular biology to understand the spatial and temporal dynamics of rabies and the factors that influence those dynamics. Using GIS and remote sensing with machine learning algorithms, Ms Mogano hopes to develop environmental, climatic and historical data on rabies distribution and abundance and rabies spatio-temporal models. Her interests are aspects concerning, environmental health, the application of geospatial technology and mathematical models. She had a short stint as a visiting student at the Rakuno Gakuen University in Ebetsu, Hokkaido, Japan for training in Veterinary Epidemiology and applied veterinary medicine for environmental sciences where she acquired knowledge on spatial epidemiology and coding. During her PhD journey, she published three manuscripts between 2022 June and 2024 January.
