Professional Bio
Dr. Mariana Marrana is a Programme Manager at the Preparedness and Resilience Department of the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH). She graduated from the University of Porto, Portugal, in 2016 with a master’s degree in veterinary medicine, special focus on public health. During her studies, Dr. Marrana gained experience in Brazil and the United Kingdom, before doing an internship at the WOAH headquarters in Paris, France, where she wrote her master’s thesis on “Biological Agents as Potential Threat Resources.” After a period in north of Portugal working in the domain of food safety, Dr. Marrana joined the WOAH Programmes Department 7 years ago. At present, she is a Programme Manager at the Preparedness and Resilience Department and coordinates the WOAH Laboratory Twinning Programme. Dr. Marrana is also the Co-Secretariat for the FAO-WOAH Joint Rinderpest Secretariat, and an ad hoc contributor to biothreat reduction and emergency management matters. Dr. Marrana is undertaking a part-time PhD student at the University of Liverpool Institute of Infection, Ecology and Veterinary Sciences, where she is evaluating the impact of the WOAH Laboratory Twinning Programme. Dr. Marrana has a keen interest in the sustainability evaluation of global health initiatives.
