Dr. Maureen Nanziri Mayanja is a public health veterinarian with special interest in zoonotic diseases of food animal origin. She is a skilled Behavioral Researcher, Disease Prevalence Investigator and Veterinary Socio- economist. Dr Mayanja is an instructor in tertiary education with a 13-year experience teaching Veterinary Preventive Medicine, Public Health and Animal Health Economics, at Makerere University. Maureen has administrative expertise in government service gained over 12 years as veterinarian at local government level as well as special assignments with the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal industry and Fisheries in Uganda. She has multidisciplinary expertise gained over a cumulative 27 years of hands-on engagement as rural development worker, researcher on bacteriophage usage, agricultural extension educationist, public officer in charge animal disease control, large animal veterinarian and guard dog breeder. Dr Mayanja's PhD focused on pastoralist food security analysis, partly supervised by the University of Greenwich, UK; an MSc in Agricultural Development from University of Aberdeen, and a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine of Makerere University. She is passionate about pastoralist development and has been involved in behavioral research to understand relevant hindrances. Maureen is a fellow of the African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD), thus went through a two-year formal mentorship program for leadership development. She is a member of the Association of International Agricultural Extension Educationists; Association of Uganda Professional Women in Agriculture and Environment; as well as Uganda Veterinary Association where she previously held posts of secretary and assistant treasurer.
