Professional Bio

Andrew Peters is a father, partner and community member living on Wiradjuri Country in south-eastern Australia. Andrew has a lifelong passion for wildlife and the environment that led him to a veterinary career at first, then a PhD and now his life as a teacher and researcher at Charles Sturt University. Andrew has been privileged to hold the roles of President of the international Wildlife Disease Association and Deputy Chair of Wildlife Health Australia, amongst other professional leadership roles. His academic interest is in socio-ecological systems, and increasingly in the relationship between society and wildlife health. Andrew has worked closely with colleagues in Papua New Guinea and the Pacific, and is trying to imagine new ways of working in wildlife health that are deeply respectful of Indigenous and local knowledge and justice.
