Balaji Chandrashekar

Director of Operations - Worldwide Veterinary Service-Mission Rabies

Professional Bio

I graduated from Bangalore Veterinary College in 2014 and pursued my master’s in Surgery and radiology from Ludhiana, India. I joined Worldwide Veterinary Services (WVS), India, in 2016 and delivered training for veterinarians worldwide in Best-basic surgical practices across the WVS-International Training Centre in Ooty, Goa and Thailand. As part of the WVS-Working Equine outreach project, I played a hands-on role in conducting health camps for working equines in rural villages, imparting vital husbandry and welfare practices to pastoral farmers. Driven by an enduring passion for practical solutions in animal welfare, my journey took a pivotal turn in 2019 when I transitioned to Mission Rabies. Here, my focus intensified on fortifying rabies control efforts. The success in Goa became a stepping stone for collaborative initiatives with municipal and state governments, implementing large-scale rabies control strategies in the metro city of Bangalore. Drawing from our experience in Goa, we replicated proven strategies, leveraging experiences and technology. Through the use of existing government infrastructure and strategic guidance, we achieved the vaccination of close to half a million dogs against rabies across Karnataka and Kerala states over the past three years. As the lead of Mission Rabies projects in India, I guide a dedicated team with a vision to expand our impactful rabies control strategies across the nation.
